He left school
aged 10 "to work underground at the Saron Level of the Hill's
Plymouth Collieries Co".
When aged 20 he
became a checkweigher at Merthyr Vale collieries. He was doing
this job when he became mayor.
Member of Merthyr
District Council, chairman of the Health and Lighting
committees.
Overseer of the
parish.
Represented the
Taff and Cynon District on the Conciliation Board.
