|
A monument was built
for the five victims of a World War Two aeroplane crash in 1941
involving two Spitfires which had collided in Mount Pleasant. One of
the aircraft hit a house, which resulted in five deaths: the two
Canadian Pilots Sergt Pilot Louis Goldberg, Sergt Pilot Gerald Manuel and three of the occupants of the house; namely mother
Alice Cox and her two daughters Evelyn and Doreen. The Husband James
Llewellyn Cox was in bed when the plane crashed into the front of the house, the impact
threw him and the bed through a rear window on to some soft earth at the
back of the house. He was uninjured but suffered shock. |
